I’m starting to get concerned about our coop now that the hens are getting older and winter will be on the way. I didn’t know what I was doing or where to look before we built. We took part of the shed for the ladies.
We are zone 6. So it gets cold but not ridiculously cold. We rarely get single digits for longer than a week for highs and more often than not we have 20s for highs and teens for lows.
Once insulation is added for winter, the coop is 2.5 for x 8.5 feet. My husband measured the BARE MINIMUM as we have 7 chickens
They have 7.5 feet of roosting bars at 3 levels (2.5 ft per level).
I’ve included a picture of the coop space. Don’t mind the board on the left or the box with weeds in it
we have a new layer and I’m trying to recreate where she likes to lay in the yard/garden.
What changes would need to be made before winter? Keeping in mind that they have a 10 ft x 8 ft covered, ground level patio where they spend a lot of time.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate everyone here and how much you’re willing to help others
