Chantecler Thread!

I've been busy NOT taking pictures this fall, so nothing new here.
My possible replacement cockerel is in the freezer, after being a jerk the the pullets and hens due to 'hormonal overload'; very unpleasant. Idiot!!!
Solo, my avatar, remains as the only standard cock bird here, along with his hens and only three pullets.
I may order more chicks from Cackle in spring, and hopefully hatch more in a better incubator, so next spring, we'll seeMary

Ha, that's a pity. I always enjoy your photography. Sorry about the jerk, seems like the nicest ones always have something wrong, eh?

Hi all. I posted in the main breeds forum but haven't received any answers and I'd like to expand my questions to include both white & partridge.

I've heard that partridges are fairly broody and make excellent mothers. Has this been your experience? How are whites?

How are they in a mixed flock setting? I currently have buckeyes, who tend to be lower in the pecking order.

I only have the PC pullets as of now, so no broody experience yet. My birds are quite good in a mixed flock and will give out what they get without being overly mean.

The 2 Partridge Chanteclers I had from Ideal (2012) were both broody. No fertile eggs to hatch though so I can't comment on their mothering. One died of unknown causes 3 months before she would have been 2, the other died a year later at the "hands" of a fox.
