Chantecler Thread!

"Seeing as I live right near where the partridge was created I of course have to have some :) I love the original chantecler as well. "

Check out the Glenbow museum in the Timms archives - they have draft documents Timms wrote about the acceptance of the Partridge to the APA and Dr Wilkinson. Also, the Lethbridge Herald has an archived article when Dr Wilkinson's birds were being shipped to England (9/30/1935)

"I've heard that partridges are fairly broody and make excellent mothers. Has this been your experience?"
- Broodiness is definitely a tendency but some of ours never go broody.

"How are they in a mixed flock setting?"
I only have Partridge Chantecler, Standard Bronze Turkeys and a few ancient Java hens. They all get along here.

Biggest thing with my line is that they need space and do not do well in tight confinement.

I had 2 Partridge Chanteclers (from Ideal in 2012). Both where highly broody. Lost one just shy of 2 years to who knows what (fine at 8, dead warm and still pliable at 11:30) and 1 to a fox the following year. Didn't get more because I don't have need for girls that want to hatch pine shavings. Good layers though.
