Chantecler Thread!

6.5 weeks -- started adding adult layer crumble into their medicated chick feed. They've been getting grit already for a week or so.

They're starting to look a bit dustier, compared to their earlier whiteness. I guess I should have expected that.

This year we are down to one rooster, who has lost toes on his right foot, and is apparently now infertile, and six hens, all two years old or older. So I've been trying to get more from Cackle. Sadly, our second Cackle order, including ten Chanties, all arrived dead, thanks to some jerk while traveling through USPS. Horrible! Our third order arrived fine, as did our first. Yesterday Cackle very briefly had Chanties available, so six are coming next week, along with some other chicks for a fifteen chick order. :fl
Lots of chicks, several breeds, and I'll be moving some on as they are growing.

Mary, so sorry about your order! Poor babies.

I did an egg swap with my neighbor yesterday. She has a broody in need of eggs, I have fertile eggs. So Snowbird will be a dad!

We'll see what Chantecler over Black Australorp, Blue Australorp, and Jubilee Orpington looks like.

My chicken feed adventure continues, and I need help!

The local store had 16% grower feed, which seems kind of low, and also 36% supplemental feed, which seems way too high.

I am assuming I can do some math and mix them together to get to wherever I want, but I wanted to double-check that it'll work.

Also, given free rein, what protein percentage should I aim to mix up?
