Chantecler Thread!

Yup, your Partridge sound just like my buff. I have several that are, well, runts. One of the runts looked like it was getting a bit run over so I put "her" in with a few Penedesenca chicks that are a bit younger. When I feed or water all the Penedesenca run to the back of the brooder, the one Chantecler just looks at them like their crazy and comes out for a look about.

I'm sure I should cull the little runts but they are absolutely adorable and look and act normal except for their size. Actually the second smallest one is the most outgoing of the group. The first one to try and push the door open, flap out, jump for my shoulders and generally get into trouble.

(At the idea of the Chantecler looking at the Penedesencas as if they were crazy) I can just see it. I have two runty roosters to cull. It really does stink to cull such outgoing chickens.

Surely everyone on this thread has heard of the Online Crazy Egg Chain. Well we ahve something similiar, yet different. This is like the Online Crazy Egg Chain, and the SQ Egg Swap, but with a Heritage twist!

Heritage SQ Egg Chain Swap Thread

Current Offer: 6 Buff Duck eggs......or 6 Buff Chantecler Improvement Project eggs.

Just go to the link and claim the current offer. Then post an offer of your own. Person shipping pays the shipping cost. Rules are in the first post. Would love to see some White or Patridge Chantecler eggs offered. Can not offer Red or Buff unless they are offered as an additional, like my offer listed above. Come on over and have some fun!

Just got my white Chantecler hatching eggs from Quebec Canada! I've decided to consolidate and concentrate on the rarer of the Chantecler varieties. I like the Chantecler because I actually live in a brutally cold climate and mine need to be able to perform in long cold winters. The hatchery Chanteclers I have are not as great in the cold as they should be. I imagine it's because the stock they come from is not cold tested. I'm pretty sure these Canadian Chanteclers will be very cold hardy. I can't wait to get them hatched and get my breeding flock set up.

I got buff and partridge from Ideal about two years ago. They took a long time to mature. Mine took at least two months longer than all the other breeds. Chanteclers have a reputation for slow maturing. Mine were very small too.

congrats on the eggs!!

You mean they stayed small as adults too?

I'm not sure if I posted here or not, but I have a partridge chantecler rooster to rehome. I got him last Sept from Sandhill. I had a pair, but she was taken by predators. I live in western WI, but my husband drives to Denver, CO occasionally. So if someone between here and there wants him delivery could be arranged. I can try to get better pics for anyone interested.

Definitely excited, I just won some chantecler hatching eggs from ShelleyB here on BYC! I keep wanting to call the breed "Chanticleers" after the rooster in the movie Rock-a-Doodle, haha. Their final destination will be in the UP of Michigan, where no doubt their heritage for being cold hardy will come in handy
