This is Cheeto, AKA the Coca Cola Cowboy. I LOVE this cockerel!!!

I need to get his hatch date, but I think it is about the same as my Delawares. He is a MEATY bird by comparison. Very wide, round, stocky. He has soft, loose feathers, almost like a Buff Orpington, but I am loving that cushion comb. His tail set seems rather low to me, I'm wondering if that is another throw back to the Cornish, like his pearl-colored eye? The second picture shows his tail about as high as I have ever seen it, usually it is lower.

All in all, I am happy with this bird so far and if I were considering getting into buff Chanteclers seriously I wouldn't be opposed to ordering a large batch from Sand Hill and selecting most of my foundation from there, if it were that or hatching eggs.
Beautiful Birds ! Awesome garden as well !

I recently shipped Chantecler eggs from Saginaw Bay area of Michigan to North FLorida, via PRIORITY mail. Cost $8.75. The tracking report said they were due to arrive there 2 days after I shipped them, but the lady didn't receive them. After inquiries to my post office and nobody knowing anything of their whereabouts I was highly infuriated and left my comments for them on their wall on facebook. Only place I could find to send them a message. The lady finally got a message that her package would arrive that day, only 9 days late and we both suspect the eggs will be no good. Be very wary of shipping to N Florida, I hear stuff sets in the sorting area in Jacksonville for huge amounts of time.
Sorry if this makes any postal workers mad, but it also makes people mad to pay for quality service from people with back-ground checks and don't get it. Just saying.
I am only offering my eggs now to Michigan residents, and will personally drive half way to delever them by hand.
This year, ALL priority mail boxes come with a tracking/confirmation # included......that said, it is only another few cents to insure.
Just sayin'

That sure sucks !
I suppose if you had insured the box, they still would not pay you since the box was actually delivered, albeit late.
Their insurance probably does not cover perishables...........

Chickwanna where are you located? I am 2 hours north of Saginaw and will gladly drive in the area for some Chantecler eggs. I had been intending to order chicks from John Blehm but he is sold out for the year.

So let me know where you are etc.

Hello everyone, I just finished reading this thread; so much information! Last week I drove to John Blehm's to pick up some of his Chanticler and Americana culls; they won't be show quality, but are really nice birds. My first Chanticlers, white ones, and I'm looking foreward to watching their progress. Mary

This year the postal service managed to send two completely unrelated boxes of hatching eggs "out for delivery" to different towns not less than 50 miles from my house. Both boxes spent several extra days in transit due to the"out for delivery" errors. But I could track them as they traveled around Illinois. The post office also scanned another box of hatching eggs "delivered" to the address it was sent from. The sender checked with his post office and found out that it was on it's way but the tracking would not show progress because it had already been "delivered". So, even with tracking, which may or may not be working, you are really at the mercy of what I can only describe as luck. Out of the four egg shipments I received this year only one was tracked correctly and came directly to me. On the positive side my Mail delivery person is a gem. She really cares about what she is delivering.

So, what of the one box tracked and delivered correctly - that had White Chantecler eggs. 8 of 12 hatched. I was surprised when they hatched because I had ordered Buff not White

. So if anybody in the Northern Illinois area is looking to trade some Buff Chantecler chicks for White Chantecler chicks let me know. They hatched on 4/5 and 4/6. I cannot judge their quality but I know that two have darker legs and one of the darker legged chicks has some soot in it's down but seems to be growing white feathers. The others are really hard to tell apart.

Quick intro: I have a PC flock from Blehm/Sandhill stock. I took my two best guesses for sq out of the yard Sunday to a judge to assess for me. She had great things to say though did mention one might be starting a molt so that will likely keep me out of showing her in May. I am finding that these PC are the answer to wanting a real dual purpose breed. I have quite a few 'rare' breeds here but these are definitely staying. I would love to discuss more standards information. Is there a better thread for this or did I find it?

Baybrio.... I have Favs here as well. Nice birds :)
