So the sample size of 2 responses says I have a 50% chance of not having broody Whites

Of course 50% of my Black Australorps (= 1) and 50% of my Cubalayas (also = 1) are frequently broody.

I can't raise my own from eggs. DD1 is an "emotional vegetarian". She won't eat an egg that MIGHT be fertile because it COULD turn into a chicken if incubated. Nor can we eat any of our animals nor can anyone else so I couldn't re-home cockerels even if the first part wasn't an issue.

Uh...just because the daughter is ....whatever she is, does that mean the rest of the family must kowtow to her dictates? Not in my house.

EDIT to correct spelling.

Yep. We eat meat (obviously she doesn't) but no animals she knows personally. She wouldn't be unhappy if we didn't eat meat but too bad. Plus she is gluten and nightshade intolerant. Her life is screwed up enough without adding emotional trauma. It isn't like she can move out.

She is 22 and has had a 24x7x365 migraine since she was 14. Basically disabled from the POV that she can not work or in anyway support herself. The only reason we have chickens is because I figured we had to do something "agricultural" with this old farm house and acreage we bought 4 years ago to get her away from the man made fragrances (dryer stink), noise (sirens) etc at the prior house in town. Those add visual "on top" migraines to her permanent one. We have a 100% man-made fragrance free house. If you are wearing any, you won't come in. That is how badly she is affected.

Sounds like a terrible situation for all. I'll count my many blessings and say so more about it...but I might think about it.

Good luck to the whole family.

I find having chickens very entertaining and relaxing. I hope they do the same for your daughter :). I have a stressful job, but coming home to those birds really makes my day. I am a raised city girl...never knew how fun it is to have a flock of chickens. I am so sorry to hear that your daughter has to live through such disabling conditions.
