At what age will a White Chantecler pullet be obvious?

I am STILL waiting for the 4 pullets I paid for in May, expecting to pick them up late summer. The guy doesn't communicate AT ALL, didn't even respond to my first inquiry. Got around to answering the second (in August) saying a Fisher got a bunch of the birds and they had to start over and "Another couple weeks and we should be set".

OK, I am a patient guy but that was nearly 2 months ago. I don't know when the second batch of birds hatched but I am fast running out of time to integrate them with my other 16 birds (nine 3 Y/Os and seven 18 week olds). No way to make sure they have water in a separate coop (Q&D, adjacent to the real coop) now that the temps are dropping.

I wonder if the guy you are dealing with knows that "Larceny after Trust" and/or "Theft by Wire" are both serious charges and the latter is Federal. You might not want to get too far into that but a little reminder in an email might shake things up a bit...at least get a dialogue.

We had a surprise hatch and the mommy got stolen so we had to fence off a section of one of our coops to house the babes. Just chicken wire and roofing nails.

Are the dark ones partidge? They look nearly black, beautiful contrast to those snowy white beauties.

I have to say, out of all the breeds I have, my Chante has got THE most personality for a broody butt that won't lay eggs when I want her to. She'll go claim someone else's and scream at me that it's hers... the scream is hilarious!!! Never pecks just does her own version of screamo.

Very pretty birds Mine all look like they are half-plucked ready for the stew pot really dislike the molt process!

I'll be posting pics of my White Chantecler keeper-cockerels soon as well as the only three or perhaps four pullets I plan to use for breeding. I've been butchering the culls as I go along as they are graded out, so they can't confuse my judgement.

Here is a casual pic or two of my birds that only shows how poor are my skills with a cam. Please don't judge my birds by these pics taken about one month ago. I've been handling a couple of known 'keepers' and getting them accustomed to standing in their review box...lol

In the pics, they were getting close to 5 months of age.

I just put the narrow backed (compared to the others) Chantecler cockerel in isolation to get cleaned out for dispatch tomorrow. Even being the smallest cockerel overall, He feels quite hefty and his thighs and breast are very meaty. Perhaps not much compared to a Capon but I'm just not in the mood to caponize older birds at this time and the walking Capons will only get more 'ripe' for later harvesting.

I'll weigh him after he's dressed and let you know! Thanks for your interest.

Dressed: this 'narrow' cockerel weighs 4.4 pounds. His breasts will feed one very hungry man or two folks with plenty of mashed potatoes/gravy and Mac&Cheese. The leg-thighs are quite hefty, each a meal for anyone! The hardest part of this was killing the boy...these white birds are a dream to pluck and clean up!!
