Chantecler Thread!

Pics
The Partridge Chantecler needs a lot of work in the tail department. What you are seeing is hens with short tails The hen without the tail sticking up will have a very short bunny tail. The other pullet will still have a short tail, but it will be longer. Medium length tails are desired.

Sadly, at 13 weeks they now BOTH seem to have "bunny" tails.

Oh well, at least I'm not breeding. As long as eggs come out from under those "bunnies" I'll be happy.

Thanks, I will contact him, as long as he is in MI he is in driving distance, I want a small flock, to go with another small flock of Icelandics, and I do want the Albertan Partridges.
They are both excellent homestead chickens.

I checked the Ideal website, they have several colors besides the Partridge, I am thinking that it might be worth it to get an order from each, rear them separately and compare at 6-8 mos,

for sure will have freezer birds with extra roosters and the surplus 15 from Johns order.

This is in addition to the Icelandics. Looks like 2013 will be big omelette year !

Here is the link for the Ideal site:

He is pricey, I hope that they are worth it when you have to take 15 of others to make up an order. But, I am willing to try an order.

If you want a nice flock of quality Partridge Albertains, then Mr. Blehm is a great start. In my experience his birds have been worth their price. Ideal's fowl are so far from quality (type, color, and body size) that I wouldn't even bother, unless that isn't a concern.

Quality is of course a concern, has to be.

I will get Blems birds, donot like that I have to take 15 others I dont want to get the ten that I do. And the 15 others raises the cost per bird of the ten that I do want. over $14 each.

My experience with Partridge Chanteclers (that I think came by way of Blehm) is that there won't be much to put in the freezer. They're on the small side.
