Charity....As you open your pockets for yet another natural disaster

The management at Cigna is so hardcore on this - I swear they must get a kickback

I give to Goodwill only for the tax credit and because I'll be throwing out the stuff anyway. Salvation Army wouldn't take ANYTHING I offered to them. A perfectly good couch, a nice lamp, electronic devices, clothing...

They took expensive items from other people and the WORKERS looked through the stuff and put it in their own cars!

Knew someone staying at a shelter once that had a "store" of donated items... books to toiletries and that's precisely what happened. They wouldn't open the 'store' until after they'd filched what they wanted.... mind that's on top of the salary they're paid to be there anyways.

We have 4 HIS House Ministries in our town. When people are out of work or have just gotten out of jail and trying to get back on their feet, going for job interviews, they will GIVE them several changes of clothes. They also GIVE when someone has had a fire. They heavily dicount their already low prices for veterans and disabled people. I also like to donate one of those buy one get one free items from groceries to my church kitchen that gives to many needy families. Just some more ideas for charity. Remember it begins at home.

I always advise giving local.
I once was so hungry that the only place I could get a meal was the Resue Mission. I will never forget it. I just couldn't find a job.
The United Way divides your money and in my case to causes I refuse to support.
I do donate blood for the Red Cross cuz there is no other way. They clearly are going to pay someday for their greed.

I got it in a email and put on here what the email said.

Just because you get it in an e-mail doesn't mean you should repost it. Always search on Snopes first. Most of the things that are circulating are a bunch of hooey.

Another place to check is FactCheck.org.

Just about everyone gets caught by one or two of these things, especially when new to the Internet. Probably half the folks here (or more...) have passed on something like this at some point in their Internet career.

Takes doing it once or twice to realize and having it pointed out to learn where the resources are to check these things.

I used to work for a company that pushed United Way. I gave only because I figured they were keeping track and the CEO set the rules. I didn't have to but you never know the consequences.

I donate to Planned Parenthood anyway. The stuff they are criticized for only accounts for about 5% of what they do. It's a good organization. Helps out a lot of women with regular stuff that women should have done. Also do a lot to help the other issue from ever being a problem in the first place.
