Charlie needs a home

Hello back. Even though you live so far away your boy is worth the drive. I don't think he'd like living with my girls[/QUOTE

I’m hoping he stays as sweet and polite as he is now... I’m fully prepared for that to change, but I am still hope.

Maybe he’ll be the first rooster who doesn’t crow and I won’t have to worry about the neighbors... or the police.

Have you seen the no crow collar? I have never tried it first hand but supposedly reduces the volume for the Suburban Roos.

Hi JuliB.

I have heard of it and looked it up to see how it works-- many people here and on Youtube say that it's not a great thing-- too tight and it could hurt/kill the chicken. There's the fact that roosters crow... and aren't they supposed to? So stopping them from doing so isn't the greatest idea.

Anyway, Charlie is definitely working on his crow- he's got half a crow right now-- but I didn't hear him this morning with the windows closed... which gives me a little hope-- most people around here keep their windows closed for most of the year using AC or heat.

That's the latest. I know my story is so familiar that it's potentially a drag...

If anyone out there wants/needs a wonderful Speckled Sussex rooster with a great disposition and half a cock-a-doodle-doo, let me know:)

Hi chicken people.

Here’s an older picture of Charlie when I was hoping he was going to embrace his name, Charlotte. That’s MY coffee he’s looking at, he takes his black with way too much sugar.

Anyway, enough about his coffee habits. He’s started crowing and I’m afraid somebody is going to turn me in to the authorities (whoever they are). I’m not particularly scared but I may be thrown out of my town before I’m able to find a place to live that is suitable for me and my animal friends.

So I’ll ask again: Anyone into adopting a stellar rooster? He’s the bomb. He’s all that. He’s sweet. I’d marry him if I was a chicken. Honestly. He’s so awesome that I don’t want to give him away.

But I need a back up plan if there’s a knock on my door and it’s someone with a cranky-ass expression who has to enforce some rules. Not to say that I don’t respect my neighbors who may be bothered by his “singing” because I respect them. I don’t want to be THAT woman.

Just putting it out there.

I ordered 4 chicks— cuz I’ll be damned if I’m going to buy eggs... and three hens may not be enough to support my family’s egg habit. PLUS, Charlie is so flipping cool that if I get to keep him, he deserves to have more ladies to protect. He’s obsessed with letting them know what’s going down and when to take cover.

Yours truly,
Lara

PS New Jersey is our home. I’d drive Charlie to CT, Eastern PA, NY state as far north as Albany, DE... and maybe even Maryland or Virginia.

:goodpost:This is one of the most difficult parts of chicken keeping; those extra cockerels! I do hope you can find him a home, he will be beautiful!
If you can keep him, I also hope that he stays polite as he matures, always iffy with cockerels.
Good luck!

Thanks, Mary. I have heard about the boys turning from polite young men into violent cads. Until that day, i have hope... and maybe an unrealistic “belief” that he feels my love and would never betray the bond we have. I also believed as a child (or maybe a young adult) that my cat understood and spoke English but simply chose not to because it was “above all that conceptual language stuff”.

Thanks for replying:)

Is Charley still looking for a home I have room for another,he would get along just fine with all my little monsters.Yep they are spoiled beyond belief LOL.I live not far over the Delaware water gap in Snydersville pa.

i Can not believe it!! I just took him to his new home YESTERDAY— also in Pennsylvania.

BUT... I’m getting 4 chicks next week— two guaranteed females and 2 that cannot be easily sexed at hatch— so maybe you’d enjoy a new fellow I case I end up with one. They are both awesome breeds from my pet chicken. One is a frost white legbar and the other is a Swedish flower hen. I will raise them with all kinds of love and kindness in the new brooder I’m building.

I soooo appreciate your offer for Charlie— too bad he can’t join your flock. I think his new home is a good one but definitely not the spoiled setting you describe.

xo from one chicken lover to another.

Lara
