Would love to get a chance to see locals and their chickens and go to farmer's market. Heard/seen that your produce is huge due to extra daylight.
Goodness, 4 boys, lucky you. Great you are here with us too!
Im am around on and off it just takes forever for threads to update so i know people are on lol ugg this southern girl wouldnt want to be that far north or where it is that cold .. PA is bad enough lol

the giant produce is grown where the summers are warm (so NOT where I live)

The interior of Alaska actually gets hot in the summers, but not the coastal areas.

I think that the Alaska State Fair....in the Anchorage area, is in August, that would be the place to go for super big veggies as well as lots of chickens!

August is a good month.... Where I live it can be a bit iffy, with sometimes very cold fall weather, but most other places is nice.

The fireweed is in bloom, which is oodles of pinky purple, and when the temps get a bit cold the fireweed leaves turn a rich red. Entire slopes can be covered with the stuff, so very pretty.

What is interesting, is our fall colors is almost all red on bushes and the fireweed (usually 2 feet, but at times 3 feet tall) and then the trees all turn yellow.

oh, one other thing....

they make super good high-tech long underwear now, that wont make you too hot, but will keep you warm if the weather dips. Also, windbreakers!

Then again, looking at the tourists going through town....all of us locals are wearing shorts and the tourists come to town super bundled up in parkas... so maybe I shouldn't give advice!

AK, need to ask you about those thermals, can you give me a brand/label/order info? Don't want to pack like a tourist, but gotta stay warm. We're doing the Dawson/Denali route. Vancouver, CA, sail 4 days to Anchorage, trains etc. for the rest of trip, depart for staes from Anchorage.

Kinda excited, kinda nervous, wondering if I can stand leaving our chickens and Lady Laura that long. (Mom and Pop will house, chicken, dog sit for us)

Heck, now wondering if I can stay away from ya'll that long, Geez, I'm so mixed up about this trip. 3 to 4 days anywhere and I'm ready to get home. 2 weeks, I just don't know?

Just been trying not to think of it too much and trying to get everything simplified and stocked right now. . .

AK, I'm bringing my camera for sure. You're description of the landscape/colors sounds amazing. Will def get pics of that, and of course the chickens!! Just wondering, any chance of seeing whales, if so, where? Thanks again...

And Denali is interior, so that part should have decent temps.. :). Of course your boat ride.... I am guessing you will be cold.

There is no such thing as a toasty "lounge on the sun deck " Alaska cruise!

Even the wildlife tours, most of the tourists huddle in the cabin and don't come out on deck where you can see better, they just get too cold.
