Morning everyone......back outside to the best tv on earth!!!!

Bama, hope you get the Corid asap.

Just a note, not once did any of the 17, then down to 13 chickies had any blood droppings/spray around their bums. I was sure if it was cocci I would see a drop of blood on them somewhere. It was'nt until I brought them inside in brooder pens and on white paper towels that I started seeing the bloody poo/intestinal slough.

Just thought I'd share that little tidbit. I actually thought the 3 chicks that passed in 2 days got trampled...hence why I brought them inside and separated them into 3 brooder pens to "observe". Very lucky I caught it and that they held on and survived to date. Now they are busy eating to "catch up" their wait. Growing strong and big, whew!

So glad yours ended up ok!
I went to my dog vet this morning. She referred me to a vet that is across the road from the Pilgrim Pride Hatchery....I didnt know there was a vet there! They had me bring the chick that died yesterday and stool samples from my coop. Vet said capillaria and it would give same symptoms. aka Hairworms or Crop worm. It is usually game birds or very efficient free rangers and they get it from earthworms. Wazine is not effective. Vet prescribed panacur. 1/2 ml by mouth for five days UGH not FUN! So how do I eradicate earthworms from my pen?

Bama1,
Wazine is not meant to kill worms, just paralyzes them so they can be passed out of the body, where they die exposed to air. The reason most people will do Wazine as a first dose, is to keep the worms from dying all at one time, causing a protien overload, killing the chicken. Especially if it is the chickens first time to worm, and evidence of round worms have been passed in the stool. After that, you shouldn't need Wazine again, unless you fear there are still alot of worms. You can stay with Pandur, Fenbendazole/SafeGaurd or Valbazen.

Follow your vet's instruction since they have seen the size of the chick and worm/egg load, guessing it will be fine.

In the future, as a routine worming program to protect yours flocks from the ill's of the ground, in our area, you will want to start a worming protocol.

If you are interested, I can send you some info on Valbazen, at least for future reference. It will treat that plus everything else we have to address with our soil/weather/critters that they eat. The others mentioned above will not address every worm, but will need to be rotated with say, Valbazen, on occasion to avoid immunity/resistance.

I will be glad to pm it to you. It's listed on the AL site too. Think I sent it to Chicka a couple of weeks ago. Let me know if you need assistance, I'll be glad to help. So happy you were able to get a vet, so rare.....
