That snake is definitely a goner!!
glad you got your grass cut- Your pics are beautiful, but I wouldn't want to have to be the one to mow it!

OK, so can anyone say "Sweltering in the South!" ?...LOL- you know, everything wet, 99% humidity, and 90 deg..............

That picture is so super cool!

No snakes in Alaska. A very few lonely frogs....no lizards etc., no turtles...., no crocodiles :D

Finally looks like we are getting another sunny day. YEAH SUN! I just don't like 51 and rainy, which is what we had for the last three days. :(

Oh, Alaskan, I would certainly share if i can figure out a way to bottle sunshine, or heat!!
Today, you would only receive heat, no sunshine, and has begun to rain like crazy!!
Have not seen one sun sparkle at all yet......
I am really surprised to hear you actually have frogs! I would have never guessed!!
For me today is turning out to be a building disaster- I cannot find my OFF, and the gnats are so incredibly bad because it is so humid

Just as I was about to get started, and the phone stopped ringing, the rain hit. Then I went back out and got 3 staples put in and it started again!!
It rained so hard that time, so fast, that I couldn't even see the road when I got into the house......maybe 75 - 100 feet from the door. I am giving up till I get some help!
believe me, I know your frustration!!!!!

I want to say Thanks to all of you for the kind words regarding my chicken- I have bad news, I did find her...........floating in the ducky pond this morning

But, at least I know now what has become of her, and will not be standing around lookng for her to come back all day

You know, I really do appreciate you guys!
I am very thankful to have somewhere to go to talk with people. I am stuck at home all the time, and sometimes I go stir crazy. Then when I do get out, It is always only centered around doing stuff for the household. This is the only place I can be ME and really just relax and have a little fun.
Thanks for that friends!!
Oh Chickn, such a shame, so sorry doll. We love you too, and appreciation, well honey, you got buckets of that!!!

Ditto on the wash out!!!! Got so frustrated yesterday and the day before, worked outside while it was raining, it would stop, humid, hot, raining, so on and on. Don't know how many times I stopped to put on dry clothes... Most of today, rain/humidity 90% +, just said forget it...

Today, kicker headache and sneezing....stupid is as stupid does....
After 4 pm now and firecracker sunny and hot, guess I'll be out their later on, gotta cool off some first....got to tie up the garden from the rains, hope we didn't lose too many blooms on tomatoes and green beans, oh well, pete and repeat from here on out 'til frost.....

Alaskan, you're sounding better and better to us southernmost dwellers here in the states....glad you are getting your "time", in the sun too, enjoy!! Such a contrast of locales on this very thread, very unique...glad you are here.

You too Luke, our wonder from down under! Glad your duck has made herself "at home" with the chickens. So sweet!

Chicka, hope your bird's wing mends well.
Good on you Chickn, Silver, Tony and Bellah......this thing just keeps growing, yet still personable and fun~~~

Ya'll, no hurricanes/tornadoes, nor any more major floods around any of us the rest of this season.....OK.....I called it, so say I......
so we all agree?.....

Poor chicknfun!

Ucky luck you have been having.

I think the drenching rain is cool.....mostly because we never have that kind of rain here. We never have warm rain either  we have rain that is almost always soft gentle mist like rain. The kind of rain where you have to look out the window awhile to see if it is raining or not.

OK....I am going slightly mental.

So..... Ever since I first got back into chickens..maybe four years back....I am always loosing some. Just one or two at a time, so traumatic, but I moved on.

I kept trying to improve the run, or fix the reason that I lost one. Kept trying different things trying to improve my setup.

This past winter, a dog broke into my coop. It was the first time I had ever lost a chicken because of a coop break in. It was the first time I ever had a coop break in. That dog smushed itself through a little chicken pop door that was mostly wedged closed. I didn't have it latched closed because an ice **** was in the way.

That dog killed every since chicken I had. Had over thirty. ( the dog was taken to the pound, the dog owner gave me some money for the loss)

So.....I got chicks this spring, and they are now out in a chicken tractor, so I can spend all summer working on my chicken runs, and making them totally raptor and dog proof.

But, I am SO scared that those little chicks will all get eaten. There are still dogs in the neighborhood, and I think I hear a #%^* eagle pair nesting somewhere close to my house. I keep going out and checking on them...totally paranoid.

I have started upgrading the chicken coop..... But I am stuck on the run.

I really need to trench around the entire fence, and put in some below ground fence ( for the dog, but there are also some erosion spots where I could loose a chicken). I probably need to put a second layer or different wire on top of the wire that is already there, to make the fence more dog proof. I also need to fence the entire top of my run (because of the raptors, and so no chickens can fly out). But I need to set it up so that the roof frame on the run is very steep, built very strong, almost like a real roof (because of my heavy snow load) but I was thinking of using chicken wire on the top ( for the raptors...they have dived through net before, and past flapping white sheets). And that run roof frame, needs to be built strong enough to withstand the heavy snow loads. I want to use chicken wire on it, instead of real roof because chicken wire is way cheaper.

So.....right now I am stalling.......

I could toss something together, half assed, but then I can see the entire thing collapsing under the first snow fall, and maybe even damaging my coop. I hate the idea of spending the time and the money to do something that isn't going to last even a year. But the amount of money to do it well...... Is staggering.

I could go cheap, and use stuff from my junk piles.....but I look at my garden fence, where tree trunks over a foot in diameter were used as posts...and they are rotting. Royal pain to pull those out and replace them....I don't want to do that for the run.

Anyway.....I just thought I would vent a bit.
