Tonight I went to check on my birds and bring in the gallon jugs to put back in the freezer for tomorrow and found one of my slate blue turkey dragging one of her wings.
I saw her flying in the run earlier and she had to of hit something and broke it. I came in to get DH to help me with her. I looked for bandage tape and do not have any. So we made a sling for tonight. Tomorrow DH will bring me some bandage tape and some popsicle sticks to wrap it up good. But at least for tonight hopefully it won't get worse before I can wrap it up!

Quote: I have been very lucky so far with my chickens, I know it, and am sorta waiting for the other shoe to drop, so to speak. Not sure how I will handle things that may come up. Was thinking yesterday about eggbound and cocci, and all the stuff that you guys have been through with your chickens, ducks, turkeys. Hopefully I will have the ability to handle it with grace and dignity, and a clear head, when I have such issues: I know one day I will have to deal with something other than losing a chicken to my own stupidity!

chickn all we can do is take things as they come. I think I am the newest person on the board to have joined BYC and to have just gotten my first birds only 4 months ago. I have not had to deal with all these problems either and hope that when my turn comes up I will also be able to get thru it like a pro from being taught by some of the best here on BYC! lol

Thanks Tony!!!!

right back at ya!!!!! (LOL, to use your own words.....LOL)
How's your chickies today?
Did ya get that lawn mowed? I am going to do that this morning, because i almost can't get to the pen to do anymore work. With all this rain we have had, water in the ditches on both sides of the property, I am worried about encountering a moccasin!
Do you guys have them there?

Yes. Seen a few black snakes but not around the chickens. Well I did see the one Brahma eat a small snake. LOL Grass all cut.

I want to say Thanks to all of you for the kind words regarding my chicken- I have bad news, I did find her...........floating in the ducky pond this morning

But, at least I know now what has become of her, and will not be standing around lookng for her to come back all day You know, I really do appreciate you guys! I am very thankful to have somewhere to go to talk with people. I am stuck at home all the time, and sometimes I go stir crazy. Then when I do get out, It is always only centered around doing stuff for the household. This is the only place I can be ME and really just relax and have a little fun. Thanks for that friends!!
:hugs: i can X2 that! So sorry for the chick. It is not your fault, things happen. That is how we learn, and when we think we have it all figured out, our chickens say.....NO you dont, how about THIS! I think they do it on purpose just to mess with us! But it does give us something to do, and enjoy most of the time. But with good there is always a sprinkling of bad along the way, but it makes us appreciate the good even more. More hugs :hugs:

So True!!!!!! We wouldn't know what is good if there was nothing to compare to!!
I do have to take responsibility for the chick though. But I did learn a lot. Mainly that chickens can climb hardware cloth very well, and they don't swim well either, along with bad aim when landing.
I have been so afraid to let my chickens out of their pens while I am outside, for fear of losing one or more. I did also learn that, like with children, we, as adults are responsible for their well being because they don't have the skills. I did fail the safety issue this time, and i know it.....that new safe pen WILL be finished today, God willing.
