Ive heard so many people say how they love their turkeys more than the chickens. Is it personality or what is up with all the turkey love? Are they a bigger mess than chickens, like ducks and geese are so very messy.
Ha hahaha Alaskan! I had tutors for my turkey, chicks to teach them to eat and drink. I read that if the turkey don't have their mother to teach them then they have a harder time learning what to do? The breeders I bought my turkeys from told me they would not sell me any poults with out chicks to teach them to eat and drink. And I still lost 2 the first week they were weak?Turkeys are the same as chickens mess wise (at least so far, mine aren't yet a week old). But the turkeys obviously need a mother. Little chicks do everything instinctually, but you have to teach the turkeys EVERYTHING. I even read that you have to teach them to perch! My kids and I have to go to the poults at least five times a day and show them how to eat. Seriously! We have to poke at the food bowl, play with the feed, so that they eat.
I think people must fall in love with turkeys because you are forced to keep working with them.
