Yes I am awake and bed...I think not, it is only 6:15 here.lol. I think about once every week the hours work their way around so that Aus and US are usually up at the same time

How did I miss the new, totally awesome chicken run pictures! Those are wonderful!

What are you using on the floor? Is that wood shavings? Or sand?

.....LOL.......I have missed a couple days posts myself, so what can I say?

Thanks!! I'm using wood shavings because I want to build up the dirt level in those 2 small pens some. There's not a lot in there, just enough to cover the ground maybe an inch or so. We have lots of sand in our dirt....in fact it is more sand THAN dirt

.... The plan is that once they get that mixed in good with the dirt, I will put another layer, and so on till the level is quite a bit higher, then it will be fairly deep, and loose. When it comes time to scoop out some to replace with new, I will scoop out half or so and put new shavings in.

You all will probably think I am crazy, but i have been dumping the used duck and chick material around me older plants in the ground as mulch, and everything looks great!! I have not composted it yet, but none of it that I have used that way is really poopy. Because I had all those brooders in the house......very small house.......I was changing out the bedding on a daily basis.

I want to agree with what Chirp said regarding your coop and run pics.....I agree that due to your environment you have many challenges that we farther south do not have to worry about. I think you will get it together well! So glad your summer week is holding out for you......LOL

Have not heard at all from either. I know Bellah has a huge oversized portion on her plate right now, and Silver ......well, I am worried a little. She has tons on her plate too, and she will probably have quite a bit of adjustment to do- and I realize that, I was just hoping she would text me at least when she made it to GA. Nothing yet, but i could have missed it too, DH been using my cell. I looked through it yesterday when I had it, but no Silver texts.

Yes, call me Mother Hen......LOL.....I know she is an adult, but she is my buddy, and I am a little worried, it is just my nature

Yeah, I am here, not really settled, still have so much to do- boxes and totes everywhere. I have spent so much time working on the animal homes, that I really have not had the gumption to start going through all this crap. Most of it HAS to go.....Just sorta hard, lots of it is my Mom's stuff and I have 0 space, so I must get rid of most of it either by yard sale or some other method.......I have 3 HUGE plastic totes full of beanie babies. Many of them are ones from Mc Donalds, still in the original packaging, etc. She even has the happy meal bags they came in, so there's a bunch of stuff like that. Stuff she thought would be worth money some day and , well, it just isn't. There are a couple of Beanies in there from the original set that were first released, and may one day be worth something, but the rest

IDK what to do with all that stuff.

Do you think I might fit in your suitcase when you go to Alaska?

Ok, so it hasn't actually hatched yet, but the fact that my last eight eggs aren't all dead is SUPER exciting. This pip is half a day early, so I now have super high hopes that the other eggs will hatch too!

I have to keep reminding myself that is might take a full day from that little pip to a hatched chick. WAIT, Alaskan, be PATIENT! But I am so super super super super happy that I didn't kill all of my eggs with my silly incubator!!! Oh, AND, that pip is PERFECTLY positioned in the air sack!!! So there is a very good chance it will hatch perfectly!

Yeah!! I have a hatched baby!! My first chick is a 3/4 Black Copper Marans/ Ameraucana, from an olive egg.

AND, I have two more pips! Both in pure bred Marans eggs!

AND, one of the pipped eggs is my favorite of the eight in the incubator. It is nice and dark covered in darker freckles.

I am so super super super excited!

Someone on a different thread said that with that comb so large and defined at hatch, that he is probably a rooster. What do you'll think?

Here he is again, the picture not so good. It is TOUGH to get the camera to take a good picture through my old scratched up plexiglass or whatever it is made out of door.

The dark egg behind him, furthest to the right, is my favorite egg, and now has a PIP!!!! The other egg which currently has a pip is in the front row, left edge. You can only see a bit of the egg in this picture.

I remember a very long night not too long ago when that 'bator of your's was throwing temps all over the place.
Silver and I were sweating bullets for you and encouraging you to just stay at it and don't toss those eggs!!!!

Now be patient, yeah right....and let us know asap.

Thanks for pics, keep 'em coming!! Alaskan, honestly, I'm sooo excited for you my hands are just shaking a bit. WOW!!! Kinda like the rush I got with my babies hatching...life can throw so many hard curves at you and then, "pip"....... a little miracle happens and it's like a breath of fresh air, rejuvenates a tired soul...and it's a contagious event! So very happy for you!
