With a lot of time, patience, and bugs. It took several months to train my big roo to stop what he was doing and stand perfectly still by simply doing this:

. I finally got him to listen solely to the hand command. I regularly speak to him, just using my normal voice, and while doing so I will hold up my hand and he will just freeze. Even if I am saying to come to me, or go into the coop (you know, urging him to move), he still responds to the hand signal. He also responds to my hand signals to "run", "protect", and "go into the coop". The little roo now knows the "freeze", "run", and "go into the coop" signals.
I am trying to teach the big one a certain motion to tell him to lie down, but he is not liking that one, as it makes me need to press on his back while doing the motion. He sees it as a dominance thing, rather than a training thing.
