Chat room for non religious poultry keepers! :D

Mmm, squash 😋 I'm surprised the birds haven't messed with it, though! Then again, I once had a pumpkin vine that weedled its way through the garden fence and then grew a pumpkin, of course, and the birds were leaving it alone for the longest time so I thought I'd be okay... but then they just completely destroyed it one day, seemingly on a whim. :barnie So you never know, I guess.

Of course, are they like decorative mini squash? Mine won't bother those types of squashes because they're generally kinda hard.

Yeah, this one's pretty hard, and yes it's the decorative mini kind. But they're pretty freaky when it comes to food so I don't get their sudden distaste

I tried growing pumpkins (and squash and cucumbers). I have 2 plants now, one has been flowering repeatedly for about a month, but because nothing else other than tomatoes have flowered anywhere nearby, it Hasn't been pollinated we think. The other hasn't flowered yet. I'll try pollinating them myself if they both flower at the same time.

Squash and cucumbers have male and female blossoms. The males come out first, then the females. If you don't have female blossoms, you won't get any fruit. And, there has to be enough time left in the season for the fruit to grow and ripen.

This is why I have one 5 butternut squash. Gobs of male blossoms, and e-ven-tu-al-ly... some female blossoms.

Not a vegetable, but I have one of my lithops flowering right now. Unfortunately I don't have a second of the same species, so I probably won't attempt anything

Haha, sometimes they're picky about the weirdest things! My flock will not eat bell peppers unless they're diced into tiny pieces, despite that they'll happily swallow a mouse whole. :th

Are those the pebble-looking ones? Pictures? :pop
