There's calcium in their feed but they also have free standing calcium 24/7 access to well oyster shell plus I throw egg shells to them from time to time

Soft shell. I have had a few hens that were notorious for them.

Adding on to say, the hens that had them constantly, it wasn't a lack of calcium in the feed. They just physically seemed to be unable to metabolize enough to have hard shells. One ended up passing (she barely survived last winter, even with a heat lamp keeping it above 10F) a couple weeks ago. The other has had issues for 8 years and finally seems to have just stopped laying completely this year.
