Thank you! Every time a bird you've been waiting for finally lays, it's exciting to say the least! I can't remember what I was feeling the first time I ever found an egg in the nest box, bit I can tell you that to this day the excitement is real
I'm eagerly awaiting that day! Too bad silkies are so slow to mature D:

Do you have plans on incubating your new eggs? :p

Oh I'm sorry pipd. There's nothing I can say thatwill make this better, I just hope nothing unexpected happens that will break your heart even more :hugs

:hugs I'm fortunately spared from anything too traumatizing because I actually pay for someone else to do it. I know, I know, it's the coward's way out of the responsibility I have as a breeder, but I just can't do it. The whole drive up, those boys were talking to me with that inquisitive 'awk-awk' they do and looking around at the scenery going by as we drove, very confused but curious about the whole thing. And the whole way back I kept feeling like turning right around to go back and get them. I just love these birds so much, and these were some of Gus's sons so that made it extra hard. I still really miss that big guy. 💔

But, I kept three of Gus's sons from that age group that so far seem like the best suited to not only carry on Gus's legacy but help with improving my line, so at least I have some comfort in that. And there really was no way to keep all of them any longer. They were at that age where they start getting rambunctious and making everyone miserable. They really needed to go. :hmm

Same here. I have so many to do, I've separated most so I can break it down into smaller amounts each time. Not looking forwards to it though
I've got two drakes I need to process. October is going to be the BIG processing month, going into November. NOT looking forward to it. So much work, on top of the emotional drain it can sometimes have.

Lots of hugs and good vibes to you both :hugs

Oh, I forgot to tell yall, I almost got smacked in the head by a raptor a few days ago

Uh... Is no one gonna ask for more info here, because I think I need to know more, here. 🤭

I wonder how I missed this thread, I was on the other one a tiny bit but it got taken down. Mind if I join? I’m non-religious

:frow Welcome!

Question: do you guys believe in paranormal stuff?

Hmm, not particularly. I tend to be skeptical of anything until I see more tangible proof of it existing, personally. But I wouldn't knock anyone else for their beliefs, of course. 🙂

In the spirit of bantams I'd like to announce that today we got our first serama egg🥹!

Congrats!! It's always so exciting when someone new goes into lay! :love

Oh yes, so I've heard. My silkie mix laid right on schedule, but the pure birds will definitely take more time. Hey, it just means it'll be all the more exciting! And no, no hatching for these guys yet! Circling back to what we were saying about good breeding, these guys have way too small and underdeveloped eggs to be put to hatch. I'll probably only hatch after they reach 10 or even better 12 months. By that time any random genetic abnormalities will have probably popped up, although there's always room for something. Now, those are my plans. The girls might have other plans, in which case they will be broken until 8 to 10 months. Again, too tiny to be brooding, too young, too much at stake, not the best time to do so anyway

Don't ever feel bad for that! I do the exact same. Any bird I don't want, gets collected by people I know, or someone does the job and gives them back. I'm dreading the day I'll have to cull a chick, but I accepted that risk the day I put those shelled things under a hen or an incubator. Big hugs :hugs

I haven't had any paranormal experiences to prove to me that they exist, but I don't disbelieve either. Same with reincaration.

Same, although I'm also sorta kinda scared of ever having a paranormal experience. So basically I don't know if they exist, but I also wouldn't want to find out at ALL
