I've never done it, but I know that some people do it to keep track of certain chicks and hatches. It's a method of color marking the chicks in a way that lasts. I'd be afraid that I'd hurt the little guys.

Zip ties are wonderful for tracking chicks or hatches. And spreadsheets to keep track of the different color or color combinations of zip ties used.

Will the chicks hatch the same color as the eggs?

Im on day 100. Nothing so far.
Also they dont candle well

Maybe a weird question but what is the wonkiest air cell in an egg you've had hatch alright? I've got one eggs from a set of shipped eggs that's still developing, but the air cell is saddle/two toned and just bizarre shaped. All 8 had a rough ride thru the PO and the other one that was developing seems to have quit.

I have actually hatched an egg with a detached aircell. I have hatched many with saddled aircells. What do you mean by two-toned? Can you get a picture?

Will try but with my luck with these I'll drop the egg! Two tone in that one side of the saddle is a little darker than the other, as if there wasn't so much air there. And the pattern when I candled last was more a crooked bow tie shape. Figures it's the last one standing! And I have had it upright in an egg carton bottom with very minimal handling!
