I'm sorry but I don't have a small scale. I wish I did and I wish I knew how much they weighed when I started.

So sorry you lost a baby. Last year wehatched Rheas for the first time and it was nerve wracking!!
However being cream eggs we were able to candle to detwrminewhat was going on. They 'rocked' for about 3 -4 days before internal pipping. By checking the air cell we could see the shadows of the head and beak penetrate the air cell. You cant do that as your eggs are so dark. This could be confirmed by listening and hearing the rythmic clicking sounds (and occassional 'peep'). Now you can do that to confirm internal pipping

After 12 hours we put a 3mm diameter hole through the top of the air cell and could hear the baby breathing even more clearly. With the 'safety breathing hole' in place we put the eggs into lockdown. Both hatched approx 36 hours later but never externally pipped. The eggs simply burst open at the air cell end!
A normal grey Rhea was fully assisted after sitting for 50 hours post internal pipping with no progress and the breathing becoming quieter. It was a gradual release stating from the breathing hole and removing the shell over the air cell so we could see if the blood vessels had been absorbed before proceeding.

Sometimes I think that's why birds have wings and not arms.... it is so hard not to try and help a baby out of it's shell... they look so helpless.
I just got back and read the terrible news...so sorry. Are you hearing any noise from the others?

the other egg is occasionally peeping and rocking. So hopefully it will hatch.
