Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

Hello. Thank you for checking in. I completely forgot I was a member in this group! I have not had any chickens since moving in Sept. 2022. My husband and I lived on 5 acres in Elizabeth, CO and had a great flock. My husband passed away in early 2022 and I needed to move as I couldn't take care of that much land by myself. Now I live in northwest AR, about 4 miles from the MO state line. Next year or maybe later this year, I will be able to set something up.
Welcome back! Sorry for your loss. I can definitely understand that caring for all that land and chickens etc. would be hard... and the need to simplify things.

If you do end up starting a new flock, please let us know.

Wow. Long time. I made my account here when I was in my first year of high school and stayed on a farm with some hens and incubated as a hobby. Downtown living and about to graduate from uni molecular biology now. reminder of where I came from seeing all this again
LOL, like a blast from the past?!?!?

Congratulations on nearing your graduation from university!

Haven't had any chicken action for awhile, as I take care of chickens, ducks, etc. only when I am housesitting! Have fun, y'all, and if you need a hen-sitter, let me know!
Howdy! Housesitting, and specifically hensitting sounds like a fun way to keep involved with backyard chickens. Is this something you do for fun or as a job/business?

Just to add, they were going crazy in pen we use as brooder so we asked someone at TSC about putting them out at 4 weeks, if it’d be okay. Am in PA, weather has been pretty hot. He said with the weather being like that and if they’ve got most of their feathers they should be fine. Have bigger ones so little ones are in second coop/run for now. We’ll put up some wire soon to keep big ones separated so little ones can explore. Labels said all pullets but I still obsess over if they are. Just hard to get a good pic cause they’re always moving and as soon as a door opens they’re ready to jump out 😂

They are likely pullets!...unless one of them starts crowing....

How darling!
But because they’re 4 weeks old and still small they keep going up here at night. I take them off, try to get them to stay on bar and they just jump back up there. Won’t be able to for long as they keep getting bigger it is just because they are able to fit on it right now. Didn’t know it would cut off, have to tap it.

Last year one of my mama hens had weened her chicks. One night when I locked them up, I couldn't find the two females. I was freaking out because they were in an enclosed run. I was terrified that a rat or snake had gotten in. Finally I saw them. They were roosting up over the door above my head. 🤣
