Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

I have been birdless for over a year and a half now but maybe some rescue chickens one day? Some places let you take them away for £1 each after they're no longer economically viable...

I miss Norbert and Beep beep though, my little honking horrors.

Thanks for checking in. Norbert and Beep were so cute.

I’ve been busy as a school teacher and started to have a hen hatch eggs this past January. In march I started up my incubator and did three or 4 successful hatches. Today I put in dozen Moran and Wyandotte eggs so we’ll see in 22 days. I heard Maran eggs are hard to hatch band they have darker shells.
Wow, you're a hatching expert!!!

I didn't know Maran's are hard to hatch. Keep us posted on how it goes!

What a nice idea! I lost one of my 4 chickens (Wyandottes), we are in the process of putting an automatic door on our eglu. I am looking for a netting that I saw on TV from a farmer who raised organic chickens. It was a dome shaped and it had mosquito like netting and he just picked it up and moved it while the chickens were in it. This would be great for me as when they are of their cage they run all over the place. Anyone see anything like it? It's not wire btw.
I'm glad to see you checking in. Sorry to hear about the loss of one of your Wyandottes.

Are you using the eglu auto-door or a different one? Let us know what you think about it. The auto-doors were a game-changer for us (and our hens).

Not sure about the dome-shaped netting... hopefully someone has ideas on that one!

Hi. All good here. Now have two rescue chickens, rescued from our neighbours who failed to look after them. They are both moulting right now, just on the start of winter here in Oz. Looking scruffy but hopefully they’ll have new feathers before it gets too cold.
Hi everyone. I do enjoy reading the blogs
Hello there! "All good" is good to hear! ;)

Rescue chickens? That's wonderful that you are giving them a better home. So interesting to hear about molting this time of year... especially as we go through a heat wave in the SF Bay Area! Keep us posted on their progress and feel free to share any updates or stories anytime.

We have such a vibrant community here at BYC... tons of active friendly members. Of course, life gets busy, so I was thinking it would be fun to start a thread welcoming some of our peeps we haven't heard from in a while.

If that's you, come say hello and let us know what you've been up to. :)

(if that's not you, feel free to invite peeps you haven't seen in a while and say hi to those that post here)

Hi! Little check in.... life has been chaotic and busy. We're up to 20 chickens on the farm, with 2 broodies sitting on eggs as we speak. Still havent made my chicken wagon, they free range from the barn. They're adorable and super fun though. Still hoping to add some heritage dual purpose birds in the next couple years. And my youngest has some pet bantams that they ADORE and will likely be getting more of in a couple months. :lau

I do keep a FB page for the farm, which i've been updating religiously bc we hope to offer quality meat rabbit breeding stock soon... but it's hard to keep up on the forums between home schooling, appointments, farm, garden and infastructure set up.
