Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

We have such a vibrant community here at BYC... tons of active friendly members. Of course, life gets busy, so I was thinking it would be fun to start a thread welcoming some of our peeps we haven't heard from in a while.

If that's you, come say hello and let us know what you've been up to. :)

(if that's not you, feel free to invite peeps you haven't seen in a while and say hi to those that post here)

That rooster is gorgeous. Only 20 so far? You have more self control than me. :) Nice diverse flock.

I am still here. Just been sick a few times and taking care of my elderly Mother. I barely have time to think let alone post. I just found out today my chickens have an infestation so am headed to the store for spray or dust to take care of things. Never had bugs on my chickens before so I am so new to cleaning this...looks like I am headed to the help pages for guidance.

Ducks are awesome! I would love to see pics
Here are the pekins I've chosen to keep. I promise their pen isn't as boring as it looks in the pictures. They have two swimming pools, three water buckets, and a mud hole I can't get to dry up to the left of the pictures and a three sided shelter I've never seen them use to the right. I was hoping they'd fertilize the soil so the grass would grow back a little bit but so far it remains pretty barren.

Taking care of an elderly parent is one of the most selfless act. I'm sure your mom appreciates it.

Sorry about your chickens. Hopefully it clears up quickly for you. I personally like poultry dust. Dust weekly for 3-4 weeks to break the life cycle. Also dust all roost cracks and in the nest boxes. Anywhere wood comes together. Other people like to use the spray. Good luck.

I just made a post about my day in the coop...debugging. it is called Bug Infestation. A BYC acquaintance drove over an hour to bring mee some Elector PSP. And I bought poultry dust and spray and new bedding at tractor supply. And had a friend make new roosting bars. So tempted to ring neck and burn the thing down. Yuck!!!

Hopefully you get it under control quickly. That's never fun to deal with. That's nice you have a BYC acquaintance. So many nice people on BYC. :)

Hi! I JUST logged in and it’s August 😭 but just wanted to share that I have another business and I’m usually there working about four days a week. But I did get some chicks back in May of last year(?) and unfortunately I’ve lost so many of them to predators so I’m down to like four of that flock so that’s frustrating but I’m looking to order some more laying hens soon to replenish some of our birds.

I currently have 10 RIRs, 1 buff laced polish, 1 Ayam Cemani rooster, 4 Buff Orpington hens, and 1 Buff Orpington Rooster. Yes my roosters get along just fine. But I also have three Kune Kune pigs!

I was looking to add some Black Australorp hens, some Ameraucana hens, and maybe some Olive Eggers if I can find them! We’re also adding about 25-30 meat birds just to fill our freezer. Honestly we’re tired of grocery runs.

Where does everyone else order their chicks from(if that’s an option for you)?

I’ve ordered from cackle hatchery before and I like their options but I’ve also looked at Murray McMurray as well. I’m located in nw Florida.
