Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

Hi! Little check in.... life has been chaotic and busy. We're up to 20 chickens on the farm, with 2 broodies sitting on eggs as we speak. Still havent made my chicken wagon, they free range from the barn. They're adorable and super fun though. Still hoping to add some heritage dual purpose birds in the next couple years. And my youngest has some pet bantams that they ADORE and will likely be getting more of in a couple months. :lau

I do keep a FB page for the farm, which i've been updating religiously bc we hope to offer quality meat rabbit breeding stock soon... but it's hard to keep up on the forums between home schooling, appointments, farm, garden and infastructure set up.
Thanks for checking in. Good luck to those broody girls! I hope you get a great hatch.

It sounds like you are Happily busy!

We have such a vibrant community here at BYC... tons of active friendly members. Of course, life gets busy, so I was thinking it would be fun to start a thread welcoming some of our peeps we haven't heard from in a while.

If that's you, come say hello and let us know what you've been up to. :)

(if that's not you, feel free to invite peeps you haven't seen in a while and say hi to those that post here)
Hi! Life is busy! My son got married in March. I had my grandbabies for a week. We rescued 3 pot belly piggers. 2 were not in good shape. I thought we might lose one of them she was so emaciated, but she bounced back and is healthy and livin' life. Now that it is summer in TX I am trying to keep the chickens cool and alive until fall. There is never a dull moment. I also got a hankerin' for add a couple turkeys. We will see.

It’s been awhile ! Been extra busy adding to the flock and redoing the backyard trying to make a suburban homestead of sorts. Not super easy, but I’m actually happy about that. It fills the days up :) getting ready for hurricane season and making sure we can evacuate with the birds if we need to, cause nobody gets left behind around here. It’s been a lot, but hoping to be more regular on here :)

It sounds like you are going to have a nice new setup this summer!

We do not have to worry about hurricane season here, but heat is a problem and smoke from wild fires.

Wow, you're a hatching expert!!!

I didn't know Maran's are hard to hatch. Keep us posted on how it goes!
Not an expert just a lot of reading and hear say. The darker the eggs are the thicker the shells are. I’ve ready to where some people sand or buff the shell to make it lighter or use peroxide and sprits the shells. I’m not to sure about that idea so I didn’t try that. But I am trying my first dry hatch because they say it helps not drowning the chicks.
