Unfortunately this wet damp weather brings out all sorts of nasties,
a lot of stuff coming up from the ground, Mold being one of them chance for mold related issue are 100 % right now.
I am having issues in the rabbitry keeping the moisture to a minimum, and thats the driest area of any of my animals., noticed mold growing where no mold has ever grown before.
so far nothing resperatory for the rabbits but its only a matter of time.
In yesterdays down pours hubby and I were out there digging trenches and lifting Pens up off the ground enough to let water out.
You ask why was water building up? The ground is so saturated it has nowhere else to go.
We just stripped the pens the weekend past, no reason for standing water but yet there it was.
I went out yesterday looking for a dry area to move the turkey pen and some of the chicken pens and there wasnt a single area except the drive way and that had a river running through it, that was dry, way too much standing water right now.
Right now we are all going to have to be diligent with Molds,
Some molds are deadly to humans, most molds can be deadly to birds
As soon as we get a break in the weather again, I will be mixing up gallons of Bleach water and spraying down all the pens.
Dirt pens will have birds removed and a solution of 1./4 c Bleach per gallon of water will be sprayed from top to bottom.
Also be mindfull of mushrooms growing,,especially if your using shavings on your floors. for some dumb reason pine shavings make a wonderfull medium for toxic mushrooms.
Some chickens will leave them alone but some will eat them .
Just an FYI.
