gypsie, greg and I want to weigh in on stopping swaps for summer. we would like to see a light schedule( 1 day every 2 or 3 weeks) if we are able to use inside at milford for example how is that bad for the birds? they have air conditioning. we could start an hour earlier so we would not be traveling when it is warm. we could use a fan with our power inverters instead of brooder lights. many of us have tents so the birds would be in the shade. we would be willing to give it a try if anybody else is interested. it would be nice to slow down to enjoy the summer but stop? I got my first chick july third. do you have any idea how hard it is to find chicks in the summer? I would have been thrilled to gave a swap to go to.

The problems with July and August is soaring temperatures.
it isnt so much traveling when its cooler in the morning, its the heat of that morning till noon or later.

the chilly damp morning air gives way to hot dry/humid day, you add air conditioning on top of that and your looking at upper resperatory issues. add to that the stress of getting packed up displayed and repacked up.

If one could predict which weekend would be "the perfect" weekend for a swap it would make the swaps through those 2 months so much easier. but for some reason it cant be done.

One year I did rabbit shows straight through the summer. I quickly noticed problems with the rabbits.
Some Fair shows are mornings and a few are at the evening.
the ones inthe mornings mean getting up at 3 am packing up and heading out in the weird chilly/warm air, the air at that hour is very heavy during july and aug.
then get to the show and inside the buildings are either no air conditioning or air conditioning going full blast.either extreme after traveling is detrimental to the animals.
Too much of a temperature changes for them to handle. its a recipe for disaster honestly.
fans and air conditioners sound like a wonderfull idea until the animals start getting sick .

I am sure there are ways it can be done but after trying it I am not in favor of risking the animals honestly.

Any one wishing to give it a go certainly may do so , but I wont risk the animals, they are going to have it rough enough in their coops during the heat with out trying to move them around.

dodge grain asked me to help them organize a swap maybe we can shoot for end of august or some time in september i don't want it to clash with any other swaps so lets talk about it you can pm me they are willing to do it whenever we want. i don't want anything to happen to the animals either,i might ask some friends from florida how they do it it gets really warm there.
if anyone doesn't know me i drive the dark blue durango with the two boys with me lets talk about it i want it to go well down there they are good people and want in on the fun
thanks
James

as a Floridian transplant I can attest to the fact that July and August in Fla is spent sitting inside with the air conditioner running full blast.

i wish i lived there i am tired of the cold and rain i just talked to a friend down there he says the same thing maybe we can squeeze salem into the loop in september
