CHICHESTER, NH CHICKEN SWAP-( SAT. JUNE 27TH!!)

Quote:
Too hot and humid during those months. Weather is too unpredictable ahead of time, there was some discussion that we may try one on a whim depending on what the weather does. It's much too stressful on the animals and transport is tough I guess. This is what I have been hearing from other BYC members. Hope this helps!

rte 125 behind knights garage. its a feed store, for the life of me name slips me. this is a strange one, in that they want a full weekend, and a $5 set up fee. with food etc for sale.

Hardscrabble Hill is the name of the feed store.
ETA I called them during their last one on my way home from Milford......only had 2 sellers show.

had no idea they were having one, could have put it on the swap list

I know for fact that any store we set up at with the exception of 2 stores and due to travel distance between stores and a planned swap for the same day.
Stores have tripled or better their projection sales plan.

One store, had a sales projection for $8,000.00 by 10am they had made projection by noon they had doubled that projection, by the time all swapping was done around 1 pm they had trippled to $34,000.00
Yes there was a lot of Large equipment sold that day, making the number seem higher than it should be,
Its amazing how many people will buy light/heavy equipment at one of these swaps but with out it they would wait likely months before making such a purchase.

This is the only reason I feel charging a set up fee, is a bit more than greedy.
I dont mind paying club set up fees, they certainly have cost overhead they need to make up on and usually a fee for facility use.
so those set up fees are reasonable, for the feed stores charging with no lay out for space to start with I can't understand that.
If they want commitment. god forbid we miss a swap then have an email confirmation to set up.
If they advertise and use word of mouth more then they certainly will have an abundance of people in and out of their store spending money.therefor aleviating the need for a set up fee.
I know I have missed one or two this year, but that was due in part to my stupid arm. most all other vendors have been there with great success for the store.

Advertising is key to getting people to the stores, I have seen overly advertised and poorly advertised and its always the poorly advertised that's drawn the least buyers.
Though people going by a Off higway setting will come in just to see what is going on and usually spend well, but they all need to get the word out better than they have been.

ok I am going to fall off my high horse for now, but am going to spend teh 2 months off going to these stores and putting a bug in their ears about how to make these swaps even more successful.
I dont know how everyone else feels about this but I want to see these swaps stay free to the vendors and to the public.
I think extra fees just muck up the works.

I agree....some people come to the swaps and only have a few to sell and even if they sold all of them it barely covers gas so a fee on top of a long drive is not worth it to many people...

For my part, i would be much less likely to go to a swap that charges sellers a fee to set up. Of course, i've only been doing 1-2 swaps per month. With having 4 kids and all, i can't always make the drive, especially if it's more than 1 hr from home, which it seems most swaps are at this time. (I would love to see more in the Keene area). But when i do make it to a swap, i go into the store as well to stock up on supplies for my flock at home.

In my opinion, I think the host store should appreciate the extra business swappers are drawing in to the store, and not charge a fee to either vendors or customers (I think many of us do both buying and selling, so that makes us both, right?)

That's just my 2 cents!

LOL yes and I have seen it go the other way also.

One Lady I happpened upon was buying a trailer to bring to the next swaps, so it does go both ways, not sure where or if there was a husband but she was determined to have one of those tow trailers.
