Can someone tell me what NPIP means. I saw someone on another thread selling chickens and they were being asked if they had a NPIP and needed it to sell chickens. Thanx, darleen:frow

Now i'm thinking one of my GLW is a roo too. so i'll have a GLW roo and a BR roo.. what a colorful backyard im going to have. I hope they dont fight. They get along right now, but as soon as the hormones kick in.. i dont know. they'll have enough girls to split though.. so maybe they will be happy?

I went in with 6 bantam Orpington cockerels (10 wks) and came home with 4 NH Red peeps from the couple who had all those chicks in the back of a van, and on tables, all carefully protected with towels and a canopy - beautiful little peeps and just lovin' it here in my living room in a Rubbermaid tub...
The cockerels had no takers and after doing 2 swaps, advertising, and burning an obscene amount of gas, I gave up and gave them away to the bird rescue gentleman with the white pick-up truck. He's going to contact my PA breeder to get girls for the roos so he can sell them as pairs - yay! I'd have done that, but don't have the room to separate these guys, who were mixing it up pretty good lately. I was afraid they'd start hurting each other.
Was set up next to a very charming young couple selling plants from their farm in New Durham. We had a great time swapping stories and talking chickens.
Just a suggestion to whoever goes to these swaps on a regular basis - you might consider making up some weatherproof signs that you can stick into the ground a quarter mile each way before and at the site - would help pull in drive-bys. Signs at nearby major crossroads would help, too. Better yet - put them up at least a week in advance. I would have volunteered to do that if I'd known about the swap ahead of time. And are these swaps advertised anywhere else but on these sites? Like at feed stores, or places that sell livestock equipment or lumber? Or other places where it's free to post a flier? Anything to improve attendance...

We advertise these events in Uncle Henrys, Craigs lists, feed stores etc etc.
we also discussed getting sign boards put up for the drive by shoppers. all of the advertising is being taken care of so to speak.
A lot of these swaps go by word of mouth and reputation for being clean and quality animals. We have set dates for each location and more and more people are attending to buy.
Mistakes we have made a few times is:
schedualing a swap on a holiday weekend, or the opening race day( last weekends major nh race) and putting the date on the opening of major flea market openings.
mistakes have been corrected and I and a few others are more up on when not to schedual.
We will get it 100 % correct soon.

Pm chickn and get on the email list where she posts all the events.

Hi everyone, I have made the leap and purchased a Little Giant incubator. I did not get the egg turner or air fan at the time, but will soon. The instructions are not that great at showing what is what on the machine. It states to put water in the water chamber in the bottom of the tray. Are those the 2 small and one large canal type depressions in the base? How quickly does the water dry up? If anyone has had any experiences with this machine, I would greatly appreciate some feedback. Are they safe to leave plugged in and running??? Now I am nervous! I am contemplating asking someone with a broody hen to hatch out the serama eggs I just ordered and should be here by Friday....

Also, I will be on vacation and cannot trust the people I have raised to watch out for the hatching to begin....can the eggs wait till I get back to begin the hatching process, and if so, where should I keep them?
