I am up for 2 days in a row. on vacation that week. I would imagine that once the locals hear about the last swap the attendance will be higher. last month at the open house there was a "chicken swap" and a couple people showed up half way through the day. I do not think the public expected much from us. now they know different.

We didn't make this swap...... you guys should of had our weather in Mont Vernon.... sunny and blue sky last Sat.

Anywho, we would be up for 2 days in a row... not every weekend, but once or twice a month would be fine.

I enjoyed the Chichester swap. Not sure if I will go to too many of those since it was an hour and a half for me to get there so not the best location for me. I did notice there were a few sellers there that I haven't seen at the Milford swaps (like the man who sold me my turkey) and I'm sure more will join in as the swaps gain popularity. Word of mouth sometimes being the most effective advertising in small communities in this state.

I haven't seen any of this, not sure if someone does and I just didn't notice, but maybe some people that go to sell at the swaps should have backyard chickens info sheets printed up to give out to the various buyers and public at large. If more people join here they may get more fired up.

Also I think it would help if we could hand out a printout of the upcoming swaps around the area. Not sure if that would be allowed though since we are using a particular store's parking lot and I don't know if they would appreciate us advertising swaps at other locations.

Just some thoughts I had.

I bet if the swaps are at other TSC's there wouldn't be a problem. Also, the man you got your turkey from is a great guy....I know him personally and he has great birds (he does a lot of showing, and keep a real clean farm).
I definatley think we should have BYC printouts to hand out. I kept asking people if the were from BYC and they were like "whaaat???" so I had to keep explaining. we would do well to have info sheets. Ok. that was my 2 cents.

i had thought about that too, not about byc but about the next swap , maybe i will print out some upcoming swaps sheets to hand out.

laughingllama, please let him know that Bruiser is doing great! He enjoys his daily walks on his harness and leash and we will be building the big pen this weekend. Even after he is in the big pen we will probably still take him out for walks until he's been here long enough to free range without taking off. I'd love it if your friend would e-mail me [email protected] I'm thinking about getting either some hens, poults, or some hatching eggs in the next couple of months to give Bruiser his own little flock and we'd love to get them from him if he is willing to sell any. Bruiser is such a great bird! Even my DH, that I was sure would kill me for bringing him home, likes the big guy. I can't wait til he can be loose with the chickens. I'm really looking forward to seeing him strut! He has competitions with the rooster in the morning. Rooster crows, Bruiser gobbles. Very cute. Oh, and BTW, DH has resigned himself to the fact that we now need some Turkey hens

I'm probably not going to make it to too many swaps because DH is a bit annoyed with me bringing home a turkey and would rather I didn't go (for fear of what might come home next I guess

). However, any swap I do go to I think I will bring printouts about BYC if I'm selling something. It's just such an awesome bank of knowledge and a lot of fun too!

He gave in ? and decided to like him ? LOL I knew he would once he saw the big guy, That is a stunning bird no matter how you look at him. I cant wait to see pictures of him once he is fully mature.
The Palm Hens are not as pretty but they are stunning in their own right. a small flock of 2 or 3 would look awesome in your yard.
I am glad Hubby came round and likes Bruiser.

He complains about every animal I bring in but he does like them once they are here, lol.

My only concern with having a small flock of turkeys is them deciding to break off on their own and wander over to the neighbor's house which really isn't all that far from the coop. The chickens stay close to the coop but I hear turkeys can be wanderers.

Firedove,
I will let Patrick know and give him your email address.
Have you gobbled at your Tom yet? I love tom tukeys, cuz' generally, you gobble at them and they gobble right back. LOL. You get going at it, the both of you and generally you feel, like an idiot if somone catches you. LOL. it's too funny not to try, LOL

I learned about this forum from a lady we met at the Milford swap in February. Same lady we got our first two chickens from. I heard about the swap from a regional farmer group. But after joining this BYC forum, i have learned about many more swaps that are discussed here. Also found out about who's bringing what kind of chicks, etc. That helps me decide which swaps to attend when there are conflicting dates, two in one weekend (i can't do 2 days in a row), or long distances to travel---knowing ahead of time that i will get certain chicks i want is great!!!

That's my 2 cents.
