Chick about to die shaky full crop please help

Sounds like you are doing well.

Try and get them more chick food soon, make sure they have enough light+heat. Give them CHICK CRUMB if possible, it never causes impacted crop.

@Hana123 How are your chicks today?

Did you go to the vet as suggested and if so, was s/he able to help?
Three of my chickens that were really sick died in the early morning even if I was planning to take them to the vet again they wouldn’t made it :(

however there is 5 left and I’m really scared if they aren't going to make it because I’m not that experienced as they are my first would you mind looking at my last thread as you may know all the information already?

- I just started them on shell grit but I’m reallyaren’t sure how often and how much to give also I’m very scared to free feed them as the never stop eating and the whole full crop it a nightmare to me as I lost 3 of my special ones 😥

They need chick grit which is made from granite. Put it in a separate container from food. They only need grit when they eat grass or foods other than chick starter crumbles. Did you get more chick feed? Make sure they have enough heat by using a thermometer on the floor of the brooder. At 4 weeks old, they should have a temperature of about 75 degrees F in the warmest section of the brooder. By 6-7 weeks they should be completely feathered and the heat can be gradually discontinued unless you are near zero in the garage. Watch their poops for diarrhea or coccidiosis. Sorry that you lost some. It might be good for you to get a book on raising chickens from your feed store, or read some of the articles here on our learning center. Here is a list of those articles:

Make sure it's always available. They will know when they need it. Just have it available in a seperate dish. By "shell grit" do you mean oyster shell? That's not what they need. They need chick grit which is tiny peices of granite that they eat to help grind up their food in their crop because they do not have teeth. Oyster shell is what you have available for laying hens to get the calcium that they need.

I'm sorry for your losses. The vet should not have laughed at you. I personally would report that to someone higher up at the clinic.

I'm not sure how to help other than make sure they are warm and have fresh chick starter and water and arent eating their own poop. A good way to gauge temp without a thermometer is to assess how the chicks are behaving. If they're huddled together, the brooder is too cold. If they are as far away from the heat source as possible, the brooder is too warm. Since they are ill currently, I wouldn't rely on that now, but it's a good metric for once they're doing better.

I am very sorry you lost them. :hugs

Which of your various threads do you mean, so I can have a look?

Don't let them have oyster shell as this might make the obstruction even worse. Just as suggested by @Eggcessive provide a separate dish with chick grit which is the correct size for the littles.

It is normal for chicks to eat all the time when not sleeping, in the evening they will have a swollen crop which allows them to survive the night sleeping without eating. In the morning the crop will be empty and flat again before they start eating again.
