Hi, I had stupidly put some yarn up in the coop for my chicks to play with, it was tied on a perch. Well later my sister came into the house holding one of our week old buff Orrington's with the yarn about 2-3in in her throat and the rest of it wrapped around her foot. I tried to gently pull it out but there was no way it was budging, so my mom pulled a bit harder and it still didn't come out. We then cut what we could off.

I'm sure she ate at least 2-3inchs, I feel so terribly. It has been a few hours now and she seems okay, Do you think it will go through alright? Is there something I can give her to help it go down? What should I do If she gets sour crop, can she? any help is welcome thanks!

I know that if this happens with ducks just give them extra grit and make sure they eat it. Good luck with you chick(almost said duck...I have them)!:thumbsup

This is a frequent problem. Chickens will peck at and eat anything they find on the ground or elsewhere. Hopefully the yarn will pass and be digested in the gizzard. Place chick grit in a container so that it is available to help the gizzard digest feeds (and yarn) other than chick starter. Good luck. Here is another similar thread to read:
