Chick attacked by another broody hen- Hurt Leg

The chick is really trying, but make sure that it can get it’s footing on a nonslip surface. The shavings are good but it was slipping on the tarp. It’s left foot is really injured, and making it unbalanced. I sure hope that it makes it. The broody is trying to show the chick the ropes.
So, I moved Mumble and chick to the empty coop and put a thing of wood chips down. The flooring of the coop is wood, so it shouldn’t be slippery to the little guy. I don’t think the stress of the move broke her, but I took down the crate she nested on the eggs in so there would at least be something familiar in the coop.

She didn’t come out of it while I was there, so I just left.

I really wanted to hold off on naming the little guy but Hubble kind of popped into my head ( I thought of Hobble too but that’s kind of mean ), it also kind of goes with his mom’s name “Mumble”. Sort of. Anyways, he made it to day 3 so that’s good? Eating, drinking and hopping along to keep up with mom. She attacks me every time I got to pick the little guy up to doctor him but at least she’s being a good mom.

There isn’t any smells or seeping coming from the wound, so I hope to whatever that it doesn’t get infection. It also looks like he’s able to stretch his toes out on the bad leg but he still doesn’t want to put it down. That’s something too, I guess. Do you guys think he’ll be able to get use in the leg back? How fast do these kind of things heal?

*also, I’ve been using “he” when referring to the chick as a placeholder. i don’t know if it is a boy but knowing my luck, Hubble probably is

not much change, but this is what his back looks like today. I know it’s hard to tell with the blue kote, but is it looking okay? I don’t smell any infection ( or anything really ) and it isn’t seeping.

He looks like he’s using it even more than yesterday. Mean mamma Mumble is really not wanting anyone to mess with her baby now. When I bent down to get Hubble so I could doctor his back, Mumble jumped up and pecked at my face. Good thing I have glasses on, because she want going for the eyes lol

What should I be looking out for in terms of the wound on his back? I know smell and oozing, but what other precursors are these to potential infection? Also, do you guys think his back will close up or should I have tried stitching him up while it was still fresh?

Oh no! Poor chick😢 i cant really be of any help but i hope he recovers. I once had a similar situation as yours. A broody attacked another chick and it managed to break the chick’s wings And it couldn't make it😢

I think he’ll pull through since he made it this far. Everything happened Saturday and he’s still hear and it looks like his leg is on the mend. The only thing I’m really concerned about now is the wound on his back.

Hubble is still doing good. It looks like his back is starting to close up or at least scab over. That’s a good thing, right? Doesn’t look infected?

I think Hubble is doing very well! I’m glad that he or she is using it’s bad leg some now. The wound will close eventually. You have done a very good job with them. When the chick is better, do you plan to reintegrate them back with the others?
