Chick Born with No Vent! What DO I do.

We once culled a newborn puppy because he had no opening . When we told the vet about it some time later he said we should have brought him in. Sometimes there is no opening in the outer layer of skin but they could be perfectly normal just inside. The vet could have created an opening. Too late for the pup tho, I was very sad that I didn't take to the vet first and show him. I would think this could happen to any animal.

I have no advice to give (as I haven't hatched chicks before) but i just came to wish good luck.

Looks to me the darkish dot in the center of the pic is the healing naval. That pink think near the top looks to be a vent opening. If you can get a better pic, that would be best. I'm thinking it's just fine though.

If a chick needs to be culled, I am an advocate of sucking it up and using a pair of scissors to cut the head off so fast the chick doesn't know. Drowning, freezing, suffocated via lack of oxygen.... all take longer than the removal of the head. Just because it is easy on you, does not mean it was painless for the animal.
