I have a 3 week old chick who is breathing very heavily compared to my other one. It is healthy and isn't showing any signs of being ill, but whenever it breaths it's whole body moves up and down and it's 'chin'/under the beak puffs in and out- a little like a toad. The only thing I notice that is different to the other chick is that it's nostrils are slightly smaller, could this be the problem?? Thanks in advance! :)

It sounds as though it is working harder to breathe. Is there any feed that is stuck around the nostril that could be removed, or do you see any nasal secretions that are crusting up? Make sure it isn't too hot in the brooder, with a cooler area to escape to. Good ventilation, no ammonia odor, and prevent a dusty environment is important since those things can help respiratory diseases develop.

No there's no feed around its nostrils neither is there any crusting. I have no idea what could be causing it as I don't think the brooder is too hot as the other chick seems fine. Thanks for the reply, hopefully the chick will get better!
