Chick Can't Poop!

she just woke up and is peeping at me! holding her head up a bit, still very sleepy/weak looking, but she was very loud there for a couple seconds

pooper guy- idk what's going on with him... i dont see anything but it's still all swollen and hard back there, so there's more inside... i put more oil inside, maybe that'll help.

wat should i do with the little one? i dont want to put her back in the brooder in case we have the same problem, should i put her in wth mr poopy? he hobbles around, but i dont think he can squish her, i just worry she will get stuck where she's either too cold or too hot...

I wish some of them would pop in here and help out.

I'm feeling a bit useless here.

I think you're great!! I hope you're around when I've got problems like this.

Just a quick edit: I don't ever want problems like this, but should I have them....

We will both hope you don't have problems. Thank you for the compliment though.

Do you have a thermometer for the brooder? Adjusting the temp in there may help you avoid the same problem with your other chicks. You could put her in with Mr. Poopy if she will be safe. I just worry she won't move to keep herself warm/cool enough if she is too weak.

A warm bath may help stimulate Mr. Poopy. Sugar can make constipation worse so don't give any Gatoraid or Pedialyte for now. Try to get him to drink water. Electrolytes without sugar would be even better. You can also try putting some sand in with him. I know it helps prevent poopy butt......I'm not sure if it will help clear it up or not. I use sand and have never had this problem. You may have to only leave it in there for a couple of minutes at a time if he starts pigging out on it. After a while he will only eat a little.

Keep oiling him as well.

Edited to add: Make sure you keep him warm if you get him wet. You can use a hairdryer on a low warm setting to dry him.

i put my thermometer in there and so far it's only registering 76 directly under the light... it's very slowly going up, but not fast enough for it to be really how... i wonder if she just got stuck there or stuck under all the other chicks under there.

she's sitting funny now, sitting on her butt with her legs out in front of her...

and mr poopy's leg keeps twisting backwards in his hobbles... gah! i wanna go to bed..... i have to be at work in 8 hours...

Mr. Poopy might need a chick chair at night so you can sleep.

I've been so wrapped up in this thread that I didn't notice the time. I have to be up in less than 10 minutes.

I think if she's breathing better, she must be sitting because she's just a little weak. As far as Mr. Poopy, do what you can for him with the oil and let nature take its course. Maybe go to bed but set an alarm to check them after a while. If they are okay when you check them, go back to bed and check them in the morning.
