I was thinking about this chick all day. I was hoping she would recover.

i know! she seemed fine when i put her to bed about midnight, woke up at 3 and just had this feeling, and yup... now i've got mr poopy to deal with.

i think he's getting worse, he wants to sit there with his eyes closed and do nothing... idk what else to try, i've cleaned out everything i can see, just waiting for more to show up now to get that too...

yes and yes. i think he's so backed up that he doesn't want to eat or drink... i think im going to go give him another butt soaking in warm water...

Maybe your chicks have been breathing unusually because of pain. Chicks & chickens breathe open-mouthed/gasping when they're in pain. They may close their eyes, too. When they're able to settle themselves or rest some, they may breathe less gasping-ly.

I had a baby guinea pig that got backed up when it was pretty young. I took it to the vet & he said it had a genetic defect where the poop tract doesn't develop large enough as the baby grows, so eventually it can't poop. He said it is very painful. I had the baby put down.

Maybe a chick could develop the same kind of problem?

i've never heard of anything like that but i'm sure its possible with any animal.

he's gotten very weak, can't evn hold his head up.

idk if he's even strong enough to poop on his own...

I don't know if you can get yourself to put him down, but it sounds like there's no way he can get better & it would save him suffering. I have a friend who euthanizes by putting a chick in a paper bag and then cutting through the bag & neck to cut the head off. Maybe it would be easier to do if you did it like that where you didn't have to see it (as long as you could still be quick & accurate in doing it).
I'm SOOOO sorry you've been faced with so many HARD problems with this group of chicks. So difficult, gut-wrenching & wearying.
Don't be too hard on yourself if you can't bring yourself to put the chick down. It can be very hard to do & nature does eventually move on, but sometimes we can help shorten some pain.

i'm wondering if it was the same thing as the others... at the end he started to act just like the other 2 did, idk if it's just how chicks die... but he couldn't hold his head up and was breathing funny and making no noise when he opened his beak...

also with the 2nd one, i dont think it was heat, after the thermometer sat in there directly uner the light all night it only read 85 at the highest and they're not even 2 weeks old, should have been fine...

the rest all seem good right now.
