i have a chick that hatched this am with assistance. it has been lying on it's side. can't stand but is lifting it's head some now. seems stronger now than earlier. i have been carrying him in my bra to kind of prop him up and keep him warm. he is the only one hatched so far. it seems neurologic. any ideas??

since it had to be helped it just might take a few days for it to get the strength it needs to stand. since you say it seems stronger now than earlier, sounds like it's making progress.

let us know how it is in the morning and all the best on the rest of your hatch.

Give him time, I had one hatch like that last week. He took at least 24 hours before he could actually walk. At first he'd lift his head for just a few seconds-nothing coordinated, he'd try and stand but just ended up flopping around. He progressed to scooting around without actually walking after around 12 hours. I did the bra thing too and it worked great. It seemed to calm him. Luckily, a broody adopted him after a few hours of 'bra time' so I was off the hook for the long haul.

ok well i'm glad to hear there may be hope. i was concerned about his legs not working well. he did drink a little water but he isn't able to eat yet. should be ok for another day from the yolk tho right? thanks for all the replies. i really appreciate it. this is only my second hatch

might want to get some grow gel for it when you start to feed it really gives them a boost. thats what alot of hatcheries put into the boxes they ship their chicks in .

i can pick some up tomorrow. thanks. i took it out of my shirt and put it in the brooder for the night. it was able to sit up with out falling for a few seconds. might make it after all.
