HELP! OK, I have 9 silkie chicks that are about one to two weeks and one of them is acting really sleepy and lethargic. I have been giving her a little sugar water and the heat is the right temp. in the brooder. She doesnt seem to be pecking at the food. She kind of stands off to the side by herself with her head hanging low like she is trying to sleep (you know how they do...) She just pooed and it is yellow and kind of runny. PLEASE does ANYONE have any suggestions or help!?

Thanks, hope you can help. PS she doesnt have pasty-butt either. wait, she just pooed again and now it is more green.... please help!

Sometimes chicks just act "off". Do you have any chick starter mix, pedialyte, or poly visol without iron? Try a little pedialyte or plain water with a drop of polyvisol vitamins in it. I think I'd skip the sugar water - that's mostly for newly hatched babies and it may make her poo situation worse. Hang in there - they are nervewracking for the first few weeks!

I'm giving her medicated chick crumbles/starter that we have ground up (because the silkies are so little) Thanks for the comfort! Im heading out to get polyvisol right now! Thanks! How much should I give her at once or in gerneral?

the green poo is her intestin juices... she has no food to poop so its just the juice's which happen to be green. HOPE SHE GETS BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She also keeps her eyes closed a lot.... her poo is starting to look more normal, more dark brownish but she's not acting more normal... Thanks for the help...

The Poly Vi Sol dose is usually 3 drops along the beak 2 times daily for at least a week, then taper off after that until they are not on it. I usually leave mine on for 3 weeks total to be sure. A week of 2 times daily, a week of once a day and then every other day for the 3rd week.
You can also give a bit of her starter as a warm mash and mix with yogurt with active cultures to help her immune system and digestive system get in balance. Make sure to only make small bits at a time and remove what she doesn't eat. I mix my starter with warmed buttermilk, just enough to make it like oatmeal..add a TBL of yogurt and offer it to her. Keep the starter and fresh water available 24/7 and make sure she stays dry and warm.

Thanks for the help and thanks for advising to do something other than culling the poor thing. I just spent 2 hours going to only 2 different stores and I couldnt find any poly vi sol!!! So I will set out tomorrow to find some! For now she is looking much better as it is, she is actually walking around and pecking a little! I will still set out for the poly vi sol if she doesnt look any better tomorrrow! Thanks again!

Did you try the yogurt idea someone posted or cooked egg yolks? Polyvisol can usually be found in a walgreens or a cvs by the baby formula or somewhere there in the baby aisle.

I don't have any more advice for you.
Just wanted to say I hope it works out and she bounces back to life. Sounds like you're doing all you can to help her.
Good luck!
