Everything I have read says chicks need to be on 20% protein feed. But it’s not that easy to find. I have found it online but I’m concerned it won’t get here by the time the chicks do. Would 18 or 19% feed be ok?

That should be ok, as long as it isn’t layer feed and fortified with extra calcium!Everything I have read says chicks need to be on 20% protein feed. But it’s not that easy to find. I have found it online but I’m concerned it won’t get here by the time the chicks do. Would 18 or 19% feed be ok?
Some chick feed is only 18-19%. As long as OP isn’t feeding chicks layer rations, a lower protein feed isn’t going to hurt them. I always like to go with higher protein, but the lower will suffice until op can get the higher if that is what he/she is looking to feed their flock.According to where?
I was asking where op is reading that they need 20%. If I was commenting on your statement (that I agree with) I would have quoted you. I've never seen a chick feed above 18% besides meat bird starterSome chick feed is only 18-19%. As long as OP isn’t feeding chicks layer rations, a lower protein feed isn’t going to hurt them. Bloggers are full of information that's not correct.I read it on chickens and more.com with multiple layer breeds. Idk how accurate their information is but I haven’t seen anything contradicting them either.
