I was cleaning the brooder and realized how much crumble my chicks were wasting with the open top style feeder. I bought one of the Little Giant ones with the round holes thinking this has to be better. Wrong! I modified it by adding a skirt inside so it doesn't allow the bottom to fill completely. One Cambell's chunky soup can and two small screws is all it took. Used a safety can opener that cuts the lid off from the side to remove the top and a hacksaw to cut it to 1 1/2 inches long. Slide the wide flat portion of the can section over the lip inside the top portion of the base, Secured it with two small screws. Only allows the bottom to fill about half way. Now the chicks cannot push the food out of the feeder wasting it but it still allows plenty for them to eat.
