Chick gasping for air and is only half conscious

The chick appears to have cardiopulmonary issues, likely a failure-to-thrive chick. Time will tell if it can develop it's lagging issues as fast as its growth will require.

I doubt it has a foreign object in its airway. The encouraging detail is that it seems lively. Over the next few days, it will either decline rapidly or it will hang in there.

The clue to FTI is if you see it appear to not grow. The others will double in size by the end of one week, and this one will be noticeably smaller.

Poultry Nutri-drench is the best treatment. Do it right away.

I’m so sorry. Is she declining rapidly? I’d be afraid of pushing it in deeper. Let’s see if anyone else is online and can help.

They died over night. I think it could have been an infection because of how the problem kept getting rapidly worse and I don't think whatever was in her throat was getting bigger, plus she was fully capable of getting air in and out of her lungs but for some reason she was suffocating.

Some are hatched and just don't make it. They may have just developed "wrong" and as such succumb to "failure to thrive". I wouldn't overthink it unless your other birds show similar symptoms. It's distressing for sure, but raising birds requires you to be able to detach emotionally at times when a bird passes or you may need to cull a bird.

did you have wood chips in the brooder? this happened to my chick too, and one was stuck in her throat. luckily I got it out. very sorry to hear about your poor chick. :hugs
