Hello,
I have 9 week old chicks and last week I noticed one of the buff orpington’s eyes was bulging out, and there was a hard lump around it.. it has stretched the skin tight around the eye so that some of the membrane around the eye can be seen and this eye looks much larger than the other eye. And it seems to look greenish under the skin too, almost like a black and blue. It seems to just be getting worse, but she is acting fine besides closing the eye once in a while! Attached are pictures, the 2nd picture is one of her good eye.. anyone have any idea what this could be? It almost seems like a tumor or something..

It is hard to know if this is from an injury or is possibly a sign of a respiratory disease that causes sinus infection and conjunctivitis (pinkeye.) A tumor could be possible, but that is more rare. Have you ever seen any bubbles in the eye? The prominence of the conjunctiva is seen in MG (mycoplasma.) I might try treating for MG with an antibiotic such as Tylosin, doxycycline, or Denagard, or try to get her tested locally by your vet taking a couple of awabs and sending them to the state vet. You can also contact Zoologix for a pcr respiratory panel or MG pcr test here:
http://www.zoologix.com/avian/Datasheets/PoultryRespiratoryPanel.htm
They send you the swabs in the mail and you return them to the lab.
Please let us know how she gets along, and what you find out.
