Chick has choked on something and tongue has slipped down the throat...

Thanks for looking everyone. I will try to get a photo of it, but it's hard to get the chick to stay still and that's what makes me think it must be feeling a bit better, cause a few hours ago we were able to open the beak so easily to see inside. I really want to give water but don't want it to drown because of something I've done.

I'm on the old iPad and can't watch videos on it. A friend of mine had a young peahen get a piece of string get tangled around the base of it's tounge then swallowed the string which caused the tounge to get lodged down it's throat.

Can you try pulling the tongue up to see if there is anything wrapped around the base or stuck to it?
Kathy, you beat me to it, but we are thinking along the same lines!

You will have to have someone help you look, but could there be a hair around the tongue pulling it down the throat? I can't think of any thing else.

It is possible that the chick never had a normal tongue, and has just finally run into a problem that brought it to your attention.

Yes that's true, we were busy with feeding the other quiet little chick that we never got to look at this one's tongue. We pulled the tongue up with tweezers a few hours ago and after a few attempts to grasp it were able to get it up where it should be, but it slipped down again a while later.

If it's tongue is not in the normal position I would not try to give it water.

OP, This is normal placement for the tongue
