Well said to both you and Cetawin.
Just a suggestion: I could cull a chick if I had to, but I wouldn't do it with ease. I would suggest finding someone who can if you choose to go that route.

Poor little chicky! i am sorry it hatched out with no eyes, that really sucks.
I have to agree with the majority that culling would be the best option for the little tyke.

Before I culled the little chick I would take fourfeathers offer to give advice about raising a blind chick or give her the chick to raise. She is very knowledgable about the raising of handicapped animals and would trust her to give the best advice.

Don't cull....its disgusting...its giving up on a poor little creature that may have a chance...oh your grandmother can't walk anymore and lost her sight? Oh well, dont want her to suffer....lets snap her neck or throw her on a fire.....thats disgusting! In my opinion, if you can't handle taking care of a poor chick in need of YOUR help, don't even get into the practice of keeping pet chickens....I have had a TON of pet chickens all with differnt problems at once and I admit its hard and I have wanted to toss in the towel and wish they were out of my hands, but thats what I was asking for when I started the job...I just had a little chick sneezing, drooping wings, not eating or drinking, gasping for air. I stayed with him, dipped his bea in the water, his water had medicine from my dad's vetrinarian truck in it, I kept him warm, comfortable, loved, accompanied, dad offered to put him down via needle, I said no....hey, two minutes ago went to get a water, checked on him, and HE decided on his own that it was his time....my little golden sebright left us.... I don't know what your opinions are, but to me, culling is giving up (well, if it has like avian flu and it"ll spread and kill everyone, by all means, euthanize him, her), think, you might get a kick out of the blind lap chicken....think of the stories and the memories you'll have instead of the single memory of its very little existance and you killing it.....I have a neighbor who hates the neighborhood peafowl and shoots them....same thing to me, its giving up....he could fence off his plants like everyone else, squirt them with a hose or get a sensory power sprinkler to scare them, shock fences...(killing them is illegal too, you can go to jail for killing one here).... culling = giving up; giving up a chance, a memory, an experience; culling = because you dont want it in your hair and can't handle when the rough gets going..

Think before you cull, have a heart! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 The chicken will thank you, because he/she would decide to give up...you don't decide for them :[

Thats definitly not true! It does not mean giving up, it means setting your emotions aside and do whats best for the chick. Can you possibly imagine the pain your chickens went threw te last minutes of its life? If you wanna compare it all to an old lady then how would you like to live your whole life blind and cripple? Are you just not culling for personal satisfaction? Do you think people cull because they dont want the nuisance of having to tend to a helpless chick? You have got this ALL wrong.......... I think your just worried about YOUR feelings.... Ummm and you said you might as well not get into chicken keeping if you dont want to keep chickens that are dieing and in pain that can also pass this down genetically?! Now thats disgusting to me........

Now, that is over the top. This is not your grandmother, this is an animal who can't understand why it's being picked on, an animal. You cannot compare the care of a human being to a blind chick who depends on its sight for survival, who cannot tell you what's wrong, cannot ask for what it needs. Let's stay rational about this. You will not be caring for this chick, you cannot make the decision for this person. When it becomes too much for the caretaker or there are serious issues, you will not be there. It is not your decision, period. The chick will thank her? C'mon, you can't know what a chick thinks or feels in this situation. It's not a human being. Don't guilt trip the poster using words like "disgusting". Completely uncalled for, in my opinion. Jumping down the OP's throat may tank this thread.
