Hi! My son incubated and hatched 2 chicks. One was born with no top beak! He has been in the incubator 3 days now and it’s time he starts eating but I don’t know what to give him. Any ideas or advice?
I am sorry, but I have never heard of that. Can you post a picture. We have had a few hens whose beaks have been broken or removed by a predator, who have learned to eat again, but it is rare. I would just mix some very wet feed to make it paste, and place some on it’s beak for it to get the message to eat. Sprinkle some fpdry crumbles around it’s feet on some paper towel to see if it pecks at them. You will need to try and dip it’s beak into water and into food so that it learns. I am doubtful that it can get enough without a beak.
We'll definitely need pictures. I'm worried about the fact that the nostrils are in the top beak.
See if you can get it to eat some very soft food, like applesauce.
He doesn’t seem to be suffering. He chirps and hobbles around and naps and wakes up chirping. We have been giving him water with a syringe, I just haven’t figured out how to get food into him.
