Chick hatched, yolk sac not absorbed??

I use either a 10% Oxine solution or a 10% Gold Listerine solution to sanitize the egg turners, eggs for hatching and the incubator and water reservoir liner. I use distilled water to mix the solutions.

I hope the chick is doing ok.:fl If the yolk sac breaks...I've dealt with that and herniated intestines before. I can help if it's needed.:)
(Hopefully it's not needed...but I know how things can go sometimes.)

Thanks! I will try to find out this evening how it is doing. I am more concerned now that I realize the yolk sac truly is off color (I wasn't sure exactly what color they were supposed to be). I am very anxious for the chick, since I can't see it and nurse it right here! But they live an hour and a half away, I am PROBABLY not going to travel that far to get a sick chick to nurse.... probably....

Sounds like we need to re-evaluate all hatching procedures for the future.

If it's infected, it's only a matter of time until it dies. :(

I had a premature hatch Tuesday,( my first hatch too) I cut a section of a paperplate, set the chick on it, put a moist papertowl over its body (not the head) and put I back in the incubator, that was at 11:50pm Monday night, at 7:30am or 8:00am Tuesday morning they chick had absorbed the yolk sack and I put it in the brooter, separate from the other chick, and around 14 hours later the chicks umbilical cord fell off, and I placed it with the other chick. Now it's playful and energetic and it not to week to live like others say it will, it's getting stronger every day.

Hopefully this will help others with this problem

I just came here to look this up I just had a quail chick hatch out of the shell with some yolk still attached to it ....Not assisted hatched all by itself it still has like a cord hanging off of it

I have a chick who I believe has not absorbed it's yolk and I'm trying to keep it clean but the chick will not leave it alone what can I do?
