If it’s a Sapphire Gem it would have to be a pullet. That does not look like a pullet right now, although that breed does mature pretty fast. I’m inclined to think that’s a cockerel, and in that case not a sapphire gem.

He could be a mixed breed, because black feathers can hide things early on. He looks kind of like my Australorp at that age.
